“You can quit if you want, and no one will care. But you will know the rest of your life”
– John Collins, Founder of Ironman

“If you set a goal for yourself and are able to achieve it, you have won your race. Your goal can be to come in first, improve your performance or just finish the race; it’s up to you”
– Dave Scott, Ironman World champion 2007
Lisburn Triathlon Club was born at the end of September 2012 after great interest was shown by triathletes in Lisburn for the formation of a club.
Numbers have risen quickly to 50 plus members. We have managed to have our own logos, kit and leisurewear professionally designed and produced with our own distinctive label, giving a great personal feel to the club.
It’s a friendly club where we share plenty of laughs and the occasional ribbing. This family atmosphere is reflected at events where we always get together and enjoy a bit of craic before the race, and generally meet up afterwards for a bite to eat and compare stories! Even when athletes are competing away, you can be assured there’s plenty of encouragement given via Facebook before, during and after the event.
We have athletes of all levels, racing every distance there is in the sport, and with varying degrees of experience.
2015 has seen several Lisburn Triathlon Club athletes being placed in the top 3 of numerous events throughout Ireland, a couple even qualified in their age group for Ireland and every single member that has competed has achieved PBs across the board.
We have had quite a number of firsts this year too with several members completing their first Ironman race. There have been firsts at Olympic and Sprint distance triathlons too.
We have developed a great training package that ensures anyone joining us can improve, and do so in a safe, fun environment, with some sweat and hard work mixed in!.
Looking forward to the future, we are holding the second running of a 3 race Duathlon series (SERE Down Royal Duathlon Series) in early 2016 after a very successful series last 2 years.
This is a 2 mile run/ 10 mile bike/ 2mile run format.
We continue to develop our training package to suit the needs of our members, and to that end we are having our first committee members trained as Triathlon Ireland coaches. The future of Lisburn Triathlon Club is very bright indeed!
If you are interested in joining why not drop us an email or Facebook message. Alternatively please feel free to contact any of the committee at any stage:

Some of the most inspirational performances in the history of triathlon have come from members female triathletes. We’re talking Julie Moss fighting her way through physical meltdown to finish the Ironman World Championships in 1982. This performance still inspires people to push the physical and mental boundaries over thirty years later.
Paula Newby-Frazer’s decade spanning dominance of the female long course scene in the late 80’s and early 90’s, where she ammased a total of 8 world championship victories (still a record today).
Fast forward twenty years and we’ve had arguably the greatest female athlete to grace the sport of triathlon- Chrissie Wellington. Chrissie smashed all kinds of records and upon retirement had won every Iron distance race that she ever entered, making the sport look easy and making the top male competitors look very nervous in the process.
Now British female triathletes are dominating the world of triathlon all levels from Sprint right up to Ironman, it is an exiting time to join the sport.
Lisburn Triathlon Club has an excellent group of female athletes but we want to encourage more women to take up the greatest sport in the world!
It doesn’t matter if you are an experienced triathlete or a complete beginner. We want to help you become a better athlete, a better person and have some fun along the way.
